This essay was written to familiarize participants of the 1994 Conference on Indicators of Children’s Well-Being with the variety of indicators of children’s well-being currently in use that are based on federal data. The review has been organized to correspond to the following topics: health; education; economic security; population, family and neighborhood; and social development and problem behavior.
