Breastfeeding improves survival, but not nutritional status, of 12-35 months old children in rural Bangladesh

Briend and Bari

1989

This research study examined the association between breastfeeding, nutritional status, and survival in a cohort of Bangladeshi children. The study found that risk of dying was higher in non-breastfed malnourished children than in similarly malnourished breastfed children. The authors suggest the breastfeeding beyond one year should be encouraged in communities with a high prevalence of malnutrition.
